Tendonil 60 mg Capsule
Indications
Tendonil 60 mg capsules are indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and low back pain. It is also effective in postoperative pain management.
Pharmacology
Acemetacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It acts by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is responsible for the formation of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation. By blocking COX activity, Acemetacin helps reduce pain, swelling, and other inflammatory symptoms caused by injury or rheumatic diseases.
Dosage & Administration
The usual initial dose is 120 mg daily in divided doses. Depending on the patient’s response, the dose may be increased to 180 mg daily, also in divided doses. Dose adjustment is generally not necessary in elderly patients; however, NSAIDs should be used with caution in this group as they may be more susceptible to adverse reactions. To minimise gastrointestinal irritation, Acemetacin should be taken with food, milk, or an antacid.
Interaction
Acemetacin may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers. Concomitant use with quinolones may increase the risk of convulsions. Combining Acemetacin with aspirin, other NSAIDs, or corticosteroids may increase the likelihood of gastrointestinal bleeding. Concurrent use with methotrexate may elevate the risk of methotrexate toxicity.
Contraindications
Acemetacin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Acemetacin or Indomethacin, those with peptic ulcer disease, and in children, as safety in this group has not been established.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, peptic ulceration, headache, dizziness, and vertigo. Rarely, confusion, depressed mood, oedema, chest pain, and elevated blood urea may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety of Acemetacin in human pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Animal studies have shown evidence of toxic or teratogenic effects on the fetus. Therefore, use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution is advised in elderly patients and those with a history of gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis), kidney or liver disease, or heart failure.
